Illinois Real Estate Broker CE Requirements

1. The 2024 Broker Renewal deadline is April 30, 2024 
2. Prior to renewing a license, the licensee shall complete the required courses as described below. 
 
Requirements

If first issued a Broker License prior to November 1, 2021:

  • 12-hours of CE is required: This must consist of a 4-hour Core course and 8 hours of elective courses, of which one hour may be a Sexual Harassment Prevention Training.
  • 1-hour Sexual Harassment Prevention Training

If first issued a Broker License between November 1, 2021 and October 31, 2023

  • 45 Hours of Post LicenseEducation is required 

 Note: The Post License curriculum includes the required 1-hour of Sexual Harassment Prevention Training 

If first issued a Broker License on or after November 1, 2023

  • A license issued during this period will have an expiration date of 4/30/2026 
  • 45 Hours of Post License Education is required to be completed by 4/30/2026

Certification of Compliance with Continuing Education (CE) Requirements:

1) Each renewal applicant must certify on the renewal application full compliance with the CE requirements.

2) Attorneys admitted to practice law pursuant to Illinois Supreme Court rule are exempt from CE, but must certify on the renewal application full compliance with the CE requirements.

3) The Department may require additional evidence demonstrating compliance with the CE requirements. It is the responsibility of each renewal applicant to retain and produce evidence of such compliance upon request.

ILLINOIS MANAGING BROKER CE REQUIREMENTS

  • You must complete 24 hours of CE between May 1, 2021 and April 30, 2023. These 24 hours must include a 12-hour Broker Management CE course, 4 hours of Core CE, and 8 hours of elective CE that includes 1 hour of sexual harassment prevention training.

  • 1-hour Sexual Harassment Prevention Training Course.

If first issued a Managing Broker license between Feb 1, 2021 and January 31, 2023

  • If you completed your Managing Broker Pre-License education prior to May 1, 2021, you must complete 24 hours of CE between May 1, 2021 and April 30, 2023. These 24 hours must include a 12-hour Broker Management CE course, 4 hours of Core CE, and 8 hours of elective CE that includes 1 hour of sexual harassment prevention training.

    • If you completed your Managing Broker Pre-License education May 1, 2021 or later, you must complete 12 hours of CE between May 1, 2021 and April 30, 2023. These 12 hours must include a minimum of 4 hours of Core CE and 8 hours of elective CE that includes one hour of sexual harassment preventiontraining.

    • 1-hour Sexual Harassment PreventionTraining Course

If first issued a Managing Broker license on or after Feb. 1, 2023
  • You do not need to renew in 2023. Licenses issued after this date will have an expiration date of April 30, 2025.

ILLINOIS RESIDENTIAL LEASING AGENT REQUIRMENTS

Requirements:

To be eligible for the Illinois Real Estate Residential Leasing Agent Examination, candidates must meet all the following requirements.

  1. Be at least 18 years old.
  2. Have graduated from high school or obtained the equivalent of a high school degree;
  3. Have successfully completed the 15-class-hour Residential Leasing Agent course at a real estate school approved by the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.

THE UNIFORM REAL ESTATE TRANSCRIPT IS VALID FOR TWO YEARS FOLLOWING COMPLETION OF THE COURSE.

TWO YEARS IS DETERMINED BASED UPON THE GRADUATION DATE OF THE LAST COMPLETED COURSE.

Illinois Real Estate License: Broker

1. Comply with the General Illinois Real Estate License Requirements:

  • You must be at least 18 years old
  • Hold a high school diploma, GED or equivalent in another country
  • Have a Social Security Number or Tax ID Number
  • Be of good moral character

2. Meet the Educational Real Estate License Requirements in Illinois by completing the following courses – Enroll Today

    • A total of 75 hours of pre-license coursework at a real estate school approved by the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation
    • 60-hour IL Broker Pre-license Topics Course can be taken through online self study (the 60 hour course is not licensed as online interactive LMS)
    • 15-hour IL Broker Pre-license Applied RE Principles-Interactive course must be taken interactively in a classroom, by webinar, or through online distance education

3. Take the Illinois real estate license exam

    • You will need a scaled score of 75 or better to pass your Illinois Real Estate license exam.

All new licensees who require managerial privileges are required to obtain a Managing Broker license. 

Each Managing Broker applicant must complete 45 hours of pre-license education, including an interactive 15-hour course in Applied Management and Supervision, which must be taken in a classroom, by webinar, or through online distance education.
